RIVER SLANEY FROM SOURCE TO SEA

John Duffy

Published by the author, Tullow, Co. Carlow

ISBN 0 9554184 0 2; €25

This book (the first in a planned series) is a collection of line drawings by the author, a professional artist, of all 34 bridges spanning the River Slaney, from source to sea. Initial chapters give an overview of the river itself and of bridges generally.

The drawings are impressive, with each one backed up with historical information on the bridge in question, such as year of construction, designer, rebuilding, etc.

Each chapter is headed up by a location map indicating the whereabouts of each bridge featured. Additional text is provided about fishing on the Slaney, groups connected with the river (including the IWAI), a chapter about the 1798 rebellion and other relevant facts.

A table of and a glossary of technical terms completes this publication.
