LUAS HARCOURT STREET MEMORIES

Brian McAongusa's second publication on the Harcourt Street Line shows an amazing ability to schmooze the officials of the RPA to such an extent that this practically qualifies as an official RPA publication.

He conveniently ignores the more likely reason for routing the proposed extension of the Line B LUAS away from the Harcourt Street Line trackbed, which is that CIE sold it no more than twenty years ago.

His washing over the closure of the line in 1958 as happening "in economic and social conditions totally different from those at the beginning of the twenty-first century" also conveniently ignores the fact that the closure of this line was a mistake and no amount of self congratulatory praise by the State, it's officials and their supporters is going to change that fact.

Subject to the above caveats, the book is a reasonable publication, well illustrated and as a social commentary, meets the grade.
