WATERFORD TO NEW ROSS RAILWAY

Railway Clearing House Official Map of Ireland 1918 *

The railway line from Waterford to New Ross like the Kingscourt branch and that from Limerick to Foynes is another of Ireland's railway lines waiting to be gifted to the National Roads Authority to be turned into a road, arising out of the State's anti-railway policy.

There follows on these pages photos of the line taken in 1997 and 2001.1

This is an initial survey of built heritage features, obtained by analysis of published company histories and use of the Discovery 1:50000 series maps published by the Ordnance Survey. This initial survey involves travelling to each of the sites by car as a means of getting an overview of what's present, rather than a detailed survey (at this stage).

At a later date, I intend to walk the line to pick up on minor features and do a more detailed survey, probably using GPS to map the line, rather than just identify keysites.

* The closed lines from Waterford to Mallow and Waterford to Tramore have been removed from this map. In addition, the New Ross to Palace East line has been decoloured.
