SANDWITH STREET, DUBLIN 2 - GRAFFITI

4'8½ gauge locomotive

Located as it is on the first public railway to open in Ireland, the Dublin and Kingstown Railway (now part of DART network), Sandwith Street bridge has many things going for it from an industrial heritage perspective.

Firstly, the bridge has separate side arches for pedestrians on both side of the main road arch, a requirement of the Wide Streets Commission. Secondly, there is a red brick water tower to one side of the bridge perched atop an accommodation entrance into Pearse Station. This is a design not found elsewhere in Ireland.

Recently, it has taken on a third point of interest. The photo here is of graffiti that appeared in February 2007 on the abutment of Sandwith Street Bridge, south of Pearse Station, Dublin.

Per the Evening Herald, there is a twin image on another railway bridge in the vicinity, which I was unable to locate.
