Site Description
There are both Up and Down platforms here, with the latter served by a loop. The former goods store, now privately owned, is also on this side, as is a water tower. Behind and above the Up platform is the station building. A footbridge (1886) connects the Down platform to
this. This is unusual in having its Up side steps outside the platform walls. There was previously a signal cabin at the Waterford end of the station on the Down side. At the Waterford end on the same side is a siding, lthe remnants of the Wolfhill Colliery branch.
This branch was cut back to Ballylinan in 1929 and closed in 1963. A 1/2 mile section of this former line, containing a level crossing and a bridge over the River Barrow was reopened in 1965 to provide access to an asbestos factory, which was served by a trailing siding off
this. The route of this line has been removed with the Athy Distributor Road built on top of it. There was a loco shed between the siding and the mainline.
