Built to allow trains run to/from Newcastle without having to go into Downpatrick and reverse, the platform was triangular with the west face serving the loop for Belfast to Newcastle trains and the east face for trains serving Downpatrick. The platform was restored by the
Downpatrick Railway Society and is used by them.
