Site Description
Tooban Junction was the junction for the lines to Letterkenny/Burtonport and Carndonagh. Opened in 1868 for the branch line to Farland Point, the station survived the closure of Farland Point branch by 2 years. It was reopened in 1883 upon the opening of the line to
Letterkenny. As the latter was a narrow gauge line, this gave the station the distinction of having a narrow gauge line on one side of the island platform and a standard gauge line on the other for two years until the Buncrana line was converted to narrow gauge.
There was no road access to the station - pedestrian access could be obtained via a footbridge. As the station's main function was as a passenger transfer point, no tickets were printed for the station. The signal cabin was at the Derry end of the station. There was a
turntable at the other end of the station, between the lines to Letterkenny and Buncrana.
The station site is now occupied by woodland. Location wise, it was south of the road to the right of the label "Rockstown". A replica signal post has been erected at the site of the station.
