Site Description
In addition to being a stopping place, there was an interesting crossing here, where the gates were operated hydraulically by means of approaching trams hitting a lever. Once over the crossing, the striking of another lever by the tram closed the gates. The gates did not operate in the manner we assume today - they blocked the tramway when "open" for the road but did not block the road when open for the tramway.Photographs
